About Us
The Houde Academy, located in Shenzhen, China, is a private, nonprofit boarding high school that offers 3-year Chinese national curriculum. The International (Go Abroad) Department offers British IGCSE, A-LEVEL, and AP curriculums with a global perspective on Houde’s urban campus.
Founded in 2016 by ambitious educators with a common vision from The Affiliated High School of Peking University and Shenzhen Middle School, Houde currently serves around 1300 students across three grade levels. Our faculty comes from China, the U.S., Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Egypt, and others. 93% of the faculty have master’s degrees, and 17% have PhDs, representing nations as China, the U.S., Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Egypt, South Africa, and others. The 3:1 student-faculty ratio enables students to get full attention and individual guidance both in and out of the classroom.

2016 Houde Academy opens as the first personalized education school in Shenzhen with a distinctive American based Highschool curriculum.
2017-2020 Houde Academy conducted the Experience Learning Projects (ELP) to South Africa, Spain, Italy, France, Greece, Nepal, Myanmar (Burma), India, and Cambodia.
2020 Houde Academy was nominated 6th best school in Shenzhen by the Hurun TOP 100 Chinese schools report.
2021 Houde Academy offers the first AP courses certified by Collegeboard.
2022 Houde Academy offers the first IGCSE and AS courses certified by Cambridge (CIE).
Planned: 2022/23 Houde Academy will offer the first Stony Brook Early College Courses.

All academic courses at Houde can be considered college prep courses by most Western standards. For students who are not ready for college prep courses, we offer Foundation Level (FL) or regular high school courses. For students who are ready for greater challenges or college level work, we offer our HONORS courses, which are marked on transcripts as Higher Level (HL), such as
- British Cambridge certified A-Level Courses
- American College Board Certified AP Courses
- Senior 2 & Senior 3 (Grade 11 & 12) English based elective courses with intensive reading and writing
- Designated HL courses from the Chinese National Curriculum
For students who started off in the Chinese Curriculum, courses taught in Chinese will be indicated with a “NC” for “National Core”.
We recognize that our program is rather complex, with students able to take a variety of courses of different lengths and marking requirements. The program was designed to reflect the local reality in China, and not just for students who plan to study abroad. We are always happy to discuss any questions you might have and will try to be as preemptive as possible when describing each student’s academic program in his/her school report.
The Houde Academy is working together with the American Collegeboard and offers certified AP courses for more than 10 subjects including AP Calculus, AP Microeconomics, AP Computer Science and AP Environmental Science.
We are also offering Cambridge (CIE) certified IGCSE and AS/A-Level courses including English as a Second Language, Mathematics, Combined Science, History and Economics.
The Houde Academy is selecting their teachers and students very carefully with a multistage test and interview process.
Our teachers are requested to work closely together with our mentors, department heads, college counselors and parents to ensure that all children are guided and supported in reaching their respective future goal.
Our students have the unique opportunity to obtain college credits while still being in high school. For students, who has excellent results in senior 1 and senior 2, our school offers college courses beyond A-Level and Advanced Placement to specialize in their respective field of studies before going abroad.
